Tamworth Hillvue Scout Group wins final #GreaterNewEngland for 2020

Tamworth Hillvue Scout Group has received an early Christmas gift after taking out the major prize in this month’s #GreaterNewEngland funding round.

For winning the December community vote, Tamworth Hillvue Scout Group has received a financial boost of $3000 that they plan to put towards helping youth members attend the upcoming Australian Jamboree.

As part of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM), Tamworth Hillvue Scout Group is a volunteer run organisation that provides locals aged between five and 18 years with fun and challenging opportunities to grow through adventure.

Their Scout members take part in a diverse range of activities including abseiling, bush craft, rafting and sailing, that play a key role in developing their leadership, teamwork, problem solving and communication skills.

Sharyn Landel, Group Leader Tamworth Hillvue Scout Group, said that the Group receives no government funding and has to rely solely on fundraising to survive.

“As you can imagine, our fundraising efforts this year were severely limited due to COVID so winning the #GreaterNewEngland funding round is a huge bonus for us,” Sharyn said.

These funds will support our youth members to attend the Australian Jamboree which will be held in Elmore, Victoria in January 2022 and also assist in the purchase of materials, booklets and badges required by our transition for the New Youth Program,” she said.

Also sharing in this month’s funding are Northern Tablelands Western Horse Club and Gunnedah Junior Rugby Union who both received $1,000 to put towards their operational costs.

Greater Bank’s Regional Manager, Jennifer Smith, said it was wonderful to end the year with the #GreaterNewEngland funding program supporting the local Scout community.

We continue to be committed to the communities that support us and the #GreaterNewEngland program is the perfect example of this especially at Christmas,” said Ms Smith.

Given how hard this year has been for many community organisations, it’s great to support a group like Tamworth Hillvue Scout Group that provides so much to their communities.

It’s our chance to say thank you after a particularly challenging year.”

The January round of the #GreaterNewEngland program is now open with Tamworth Evening VIEW Club, Gunnedah RSPCA Volunteer Branch and Rotary Club of Manilla who are all vying for a share in the $5000 funding. Voting closes at 5pm on Wednesday 27 January 2021.
