What is a browser?

What's the difference between browsers?

Some offer differing combinations of performance and features, such as extensions and add-ons, and bookmark-syncing. Using an up-to-date version of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari is the best way to ensure your experience online is optimal.

What if I don't have one of those browsers?

It's easy to download and install the latest version of a browser, and there's no reason you can't use more than one at once - try a few out. How do I update to the latest version?

  • Microsoft Edge - Updates to Edge are automatically installed when Windows 10 is updated. So to keep Edge up to date, you need to keep Windows 10 up to date. Microsoft Windows 10 will periodically check for updates and install them. What if I can't update to the latest version?

In some cases, it's not possible to update to the latest version of popular browsers. For example, if you are using an older device with an operating system such as Windows XP, you may find that certain browsers cannot be updated beyond a certain version. It is very important to consider updating your device to use a modern operating system such as Windows 10, macOS, iOS 11, or Android 8, to ensure that your device's software receives security and functionality updates.

If you cannot do this, your online banking account may be exposed to security issues. The safest option is then to avoid using online banking on devices which are not up-to-date.
