step 1

Identify Risk

Life is unpredictable. While none of us like to think about having to deal with unexpected events or disasters, the fact remains we are all vulnerable on some level.

This doesn’t mean we have no options, however. The first step to shielding ourselves against random events is to identify areas or properties in our life that represent a higher level of risk.

For example, all of us want to keep our homes protected. Some of the main risks our home’s safety faces are things like proximity to bushland, the safety of our neighbourhood, how isolated the home is, the quality of the security systems we have in place.

Another key property a lot of us would like to protect is our main form of transport – our car. Consider things like the age of the car, how far it regularly travels, whether it’s stored in a safe place, etc.

Once we have identified these key risk factors, we may be able to devise some simple solutions to decrease the probability of them affecting us.

step 2

Know your value

Consider this for a moment – despite all your best intentions and risk management, you lost your home or car tomorrow due to an unexpected event.

How much would you need to replace it?

We’re going to hazard a guess you’re not 100% sure. Don’t worry! You’re not alone.

While we remember what most things cost us, we forget that their value constantly changes due to time and circumstances.

Getting an accurate idea of the value of our belongings are worth will help us provide them the proper protection.

step 3

The right cover

While there are many things we can do as individuals to protect ourselves against the unexpected, it’s hard to beat the feeling of knowing you’re covered.

And when we say ‘covered’, we mean the right cover for you. Not a cookie-cutter approach, with disclaimers ten miles long.

The right cover means it’s simple and convenient to arrange, makes the claims process a breeze, and comes with the backing of one of the largest and most trusted insurers in the business.

step 4

Stay up to date

Unfortunately, being prepared for the unexpected isn’t a set-and-forget exercise. Things in your life can change fairly quickly, and this can affect your cover.

You may have decided to do some renovations at home, or install a state-of-the-art entertainment system, or your partner may be getting behind the wheel of your car while theirs is in the shop.

While these things may seem trivial, keeping your insurer up to date with these changes is easy once you get into the habit, and doing so will mean you maintain the right level of cover for your needs.
