John Priestley has been involved in football for more that 60 years as a player, coach and administrator. He is a life member of the Barnsley Junior Football Club and is a passionate Newcastle Jets member.
John has been struggling of late…big time. He is battling liver cancer and two weeks ago received a terrible diagnosis from his surgeon. He has less than four months to live.
Hearing of his plight, the Newcastle Jets invited him and his sons to last weekend’s semi-final. It’s fair to say they were all blown away by the experience.
Following the match, John’s son, Tony, posted the following message on Facebook.
Thank you for looking after us last Friday night, many thanks to all the staff at the Jets and especially Cassidy for helping out my dad which will be his last ever live game of the Jets , dad won’t be there next week coz he doesn’t think he will be up to it #cancersux.
“His last ever game”
These four words hit home for us at Greater Bank. As amazing as the semi-final experience was, we wanted him and his sons to experience what could possibly be the greatest day in Newcastle’s proud football history. After spending a lifetime serving the game he loves and being a passionate Jets member, we thought it was the least we could do.
As Major Community Partner of The Jets, allowing fans to make meaningful connections with their team is what we’re all about.
With the help of Tanya and Steve from KOFM’s Breakfast team, our CEO Scott Morgan got in contact with John to see if he would join us at the game this Saturday.
