The Balgownie Rangers, have taken out this month’s major grant for Greater Bank’s #GreaterIllawarra community program.
The Rangers will receive $2000, thanks to the results of a public vote, while the two runners-up, Wests Juniors Rugby League and Corrimal Surf Club, will also benefit from the program each taking $500 for their nomination.
Established in 1883, The Balgownie Rangers is the oldest running football club in Australia. It currently has a small membership base of 80 players and will use the funds to purchase new equipment to help continue the century-old tradition of playing football in the town of Balgownie.
Greater Bank’s Regional Manager, Greg Creagan, said he was delighted to provide funding to such a dedicated and passionate club that plays such an integral role in bringing the local community together.
Over the years the club has produced a number of well known national and international players, including Socceroos, James Masters, Matt Horsley and Dave Ward. We are proud to see people of the Illawarra getting behind such an iconic club, that encourages and supports local players to get involved, get active and play to their potential - Greg Creagan, Regional Manager
Voting is now open for the October funding round with Wollongong Relay for Life, Wollongong Homeless Hubs and Mums Exercise Group Australia taking up the three nominations. Members of the public have until Wednesday, 24 October to vote for who they think should receive the major funding.
“It doesn’t take long to submit your vote, but collectively the effort you make will mean a lot to the winning organisation in terms of the programs and services they are able to offer the local community,” Mr Creagan said.
“As a customer-owned bank, the #GreaterIllawarra program is central to our commitment to support the communities that support us.”
Greater Bank is also calling for nominations for future funding rounds. Community groups can do so by visiting greater.com.au/greaterillawarra and telling us in 100 words or less how the organisation is helping to improve the lives of locals.
